Title

Multicultural ethics in professional psychology practice, consulting, and training.

Authors

Fisher, Celia B.

Abstract

In this chapter, I draw on the pioneering contributions of multicultural scholarship to illuminate the increasing synthesis of ethics and multiculturalism in the moral ideals and ethical practices of our profession. I begin with a discussion of the interconnections among moral principles, the APA Ethics Code, and the values of multicultural psychology. I then move to a discussion of the role of virtues and multicultural ethical commitment in professional practice and training, which is followed by sections discussing critical issues in multicultural ethics that arise in the contexts of professional practice, organizational consulting, and graduate training. I end the chapter with a discussion of how multicultural ethics in psychology requires a lifelong active engagement in self-examination and the ongoing construction, evaluation, and adaptations of culturally harmonious ethical actions fitted to the values and hopes of those we serve.
